Introduction
In view of a worldwide increase in the awareness of hygiene-related issues in the population at large, the hygienic reprocessing of laundry is of great relevance in all fields of application.
In the commercial sector, Miele has longstanding and high-level expertise in the hygienic reprocessing of surgical instruments and in laundry care in the health sector. The domestic appliance division at Miele has also addressed these issues as a result of regulations in certain countries and in view of the current pandemic. More and more laundry care appliances and dishwashers feature hygiene seals of approval.
For the HoReCa, hairdressing and child-care channels, there are virtually no overarching requirements on hygienic laundry reprocessing. In these cases, Miele can now issue a recommendation on hygienic laundry reprocessing, endorsed by a hygiene certificate and issued by the independent InFluenc_H - Institute for Integrative Hygiene and Virology Institute. For the Nursing Homes & Healthcare channels, our familiar hygiene solutions are based on national regulations, starting with disinfecting wash processes and covering barrier washing machines through to ProHygiene checks by Miele Service.
Objectives
The reduction in the virus titre count in processed laundry is of great hygienic significance. Alongside Covid-19, above all gastric diseases, infections of the upper respiratory system and numerous childhood diseases are caused by viruses.
The objective of investigations was to ascertain how efficient a standard wash process is at a sufficient temperature in combination with Miele ProCare Tex detergents as part of a complete system in reducing the virus count.
This system was subjected to tests by Prof. Dr. Eilts comprising one machine each from the SmartBiz, Little Giants and Benchmark series at the Laboratory for Performance and Hygiene at the Albstadt-Sigmaringen University.
No compromise.
Proof of hygiene performance by an independent scientific institute.
Strengthen Miele's position as reliable partner in the covid-19 pandemic
Support the holistic approach involving commercial Miele washing machines and ProCare Tex detergents through certification.
Viral efficacy of Miele Professional washing machines
SmartBiz
Golden virus seal of approval from Albstadt-Sigmaringen University:
The independent InFluenc_H - Institute for Integrative Hygiene and Virology headed by Prof. Eilts has verified the following claim concerning all Miele SmartBiz PWM 300 washing machines and issued the Golden Virus Seal:
Miele SmartBiz washing machines removes
more than 99.9% of all viruses*
When loads are washed in the Cottons 90°C programmes with ProCare Tex 11, more than 99.9% of enveloped (e.g. Corona and influenza) and non-enveloped viruses (e.g. Noro virus) are removed. Miele therefore achieves the highest level of virus deactivation.
Little Giants
Golden virus seal of approval from Albstadt-Sigmaringen University:
The independent InFluenc_H - Institute for Integrative Hygiene and Virology Institute under the leadership of Prof. Eilts made the following claim regarding the PWM 907 washing machine with respect to the Cottons 70°C and ProCare Tex 11 or, alternatively, ProCare Tex 10 and ProCare Tex 20 OB as representative for the Evolution, Performance and Performance Plus series and issued their Golden Virus Seal accordingly:
When loads are washed in the Cottons 70°C or 75°C programmes with ProCare Tex 11, more than 99.9% of enveloped (e.g. Corona and influenza) and non-enveloped viruses (e.g. Noro virus) are removed. Miele therefore achieves the highest level of virus deactivation.
Benchmark
Golden virus seal of approval from Albstadt-Sigmaringen University:
The independent InFluenc_H - Institute for Integrative Hygiene and Virology Institute under the leadership of Prof. Eilts made the following claim regarding the PWM 912 washing machine representative of the Benchmark series with respect to the Cottons 70°C and ProCare Tex 11 or, alternatively, ProCare Tex 10 together with ProCare Tex 20 OB and issued their Golden Virus Seal accordingly:
When loads are washed in the Cottons 70°C programmes with ProCare Tex 11, more than 99.9% of enveloped (e.g. Corona and influenza) and non-enveloped viruses (e.g. Noro virus) are removed. Miele therefore achieves the highest level of virus deactivation.
Summary
We are pleased to have been awarded the Golden Virus Seal for the following washing machines. This constitutes successful proof of hygienic efficacy in standard Miele wash processes from a temperature of 70°C upwards.
